The ignition coil lineup covers 65% of the European vehicle fleet
The Nissens Group is showcasing 12 new product lines and technological innovations at Automechanika Frankfurt. The main topics include ignition coils, replacement parts for electric and hybrid vehicles, the aftermarket for Chinese car brands, and Smart Parts components compatible with connected vehicles.
The new offerings at Automechanika reflect Nissens’ two growth strategies: the company is developing solutions for the increasingly electrified vehicle fleet and new car brands, while also expanding its offerings for the aging fleet of internal combustion engine and hybrid vehicles.
Over a century in the aftermarket
Danish-based Nissens Automotive has been a manufacturer and aftermarket supplier of thermal and engine management components for over a century. Headquartered in Horsens, the company joined the U.S.-based Standard Motor Products Group in November 2024. The acquisition has strengthened Nissens’ manufacturing, product development, and electronics expertise. The company has 22 sales and distribution centers around the world.
Nissens Automotive Group has three brands. Nissens offers thermal management, air conditioning, engine efficiency, and emissions control components for passenger and commercial vehicles. AVA The Clever Choice focuses on cooling and air conditioning solutions for passenger cars. Highway Automotive serves the truck, bus, work vehicle, and agricultural machinery segments and offers remanufactured components.
New Products from All Three Brands
Among the new products being showcased at Automechanika, Nissens is introducing three new product lines and two technology extensions. AVA is bringing three new product lines to the show, and Highway Automotive is introducing four.
Key growth areas include electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, as well as Chinese car brands, which are becoming increasingly common in Europe. Nissens’ New Energy Vehicles portfolio includes over 2,000 part numbers for thermal and engine management.
Smart Parts components are designed to function within a vehicle’s CAN and LIN communication networks just like original equipment parts. During the development of Smart Parts components, the structure, electronics, and operation of the original equipment part are analyzed. The goal is to ensure compatibility with the vehicle’s other systems and to facilitate repair work.
New Product Line in Ignition Components
Nissens is expanding its Engine Efficiency lineup to include ignition components. The company estimates that internal combustion engine and hybrid vehicles will remain a significant part of the European vehicle fleet well into the 2030s. The aging vehicle fleet will also sustain demand for ignition system replacement parts.
Nissens launched its new ignition coil lineup in April 2026. Since then, approximately 70 part numbers have been added to the lineup, bringing the total to over 300. The lineup now covers more than 80 percent of the EU vehicle fleet and over 2,000 OE part numbers.
New vehicle applications include the Ford Kuga (2020–), Volvo XC40 (2018–), BMW X5 xDrive50i (2014–), the Mercedes-Benz GLC 200 (2023–), the Nissan Qashqai (2021–), the Porsche Macan (2014–), the MG HS (2019–), and the Renault Austral (2023–). In the design of these products, special attention has been paid to spark energy as well as resistance to heat, moisture, and corrosion.
The ignition coils are manufactured at SMP Poland’s plant in Białystok, which has an annual production capacity of approximately 7.5 million coils. The facility employs approximately 800 people, of whom more than 90 hold engineering positions. The products are tested in the plant’s validation laboratories and during final testing on the production line.

Automediat.com Brings “The Focus on Scandinavian IAM” Event to the Automechanika Frankfurt Stage
“The Focus on Scandinavian IAM,” Wednesday, September 9, 1:00–2:00 p.m.
Organizers: Automediat.com and Messe Frankfurt.
Location: Automechanika Academy, Hall 8.0. The event is part of Automechanika Frankfurt’s international expert program.
The event will examine the structure, market volumes, and future prospects of the automotive aftermarket in all the Nordic countries. Held on the Academy Stage, the event will feature speakers from spare parts and repair shop industry associations in Finland, Sweden, and Denmark, as well as a leading expert specializing in international market data.
Key themes of the event include market structure, electrification, trends in the vehicle fleet, skill requirements for repair shops, the spare parts market, the importance of data, sustainable development, and industry regulation.
Antti Wolk will discuss the structure and potential of the Nordic aftermarket
A broader market overview will be presented by Antti Wolk, CEO and partner at Wolk & Nikolic Aftersales Intelligence GmbH.
Wolk’s presentation, “The Nordic Automotive Aftermarket – Deep Dive into Market Structures, Sales Potentials, and Regional Dynamics,” focuses on the structures of the Nordic aftermarket, sales potential, and regional differences.
Wolk & Nikolic specializes in research, market data, and business intelligence solutions for the international automotive aftermarket. Wolk’s perspective provides comparable market data and a broader European perspective to complement the country-specific presentations.

The slow renewal of Finland’s vehicle fleet is affecting the aftermarket
Finland will be represented at the event by Harri Heilimä, Chairman of the Board of the Association of Automotive Service Providers (AAPT). His presentation, “How Has Electrification Affected Finland’s Automotive Aftermarket?”, examines the impacts of electrification, particularly from the perspective of the structure of Finland’s vehicle fleet.
Finland’s vehicle fleet is being renewed slowly. According to Heilimä, this is reflected in the aftermarket as two parallel trends: electrification is advancing, but at the same time, a large number of older internal combustion engine vehicles will remain on the road for a long time. The need for maintenance and repairs of the older vehicle fleet sustains the workload of independent repair shops, while the technology of the newer fleet places new demands on repair shops in terms of expertise and equipment.
The presentation also addresses the impact on the repair shop sector of regulations concerning batteries, their repair, and the use of used replacement parts.
In Sweden, the focus is on expertise, sustainability, and a level playing field
Lars Bergmark, CEO of Svenska Fordonsbranschen, will present the Swedish aftermarket. The organization brings together approximately 2,000 independent aftermarket repair shops and wholesale operators.
In his presentation, Bergmark will examine the structure of the Swedish IAM market, the organization of the industry, and key current issues affecting the operating environment.
Svenska Fordonsbranschen’s work emphasizes, among other things, the availability of a skilled workforce, sustainable development, and a level playing field for the independent aftermarket. Bergmark also has extensive experience in the tire industry; prior to his current role, he held management positions at international tire manufacturers.
International Discussion on the Nordic IAM Market
The event will be moderated by Tommaso Caravani, a leading Italian journalist and publisher in the aftermarket sector. Following the country-specific presentations, the program will feature a panel discussion on the development of the Nordic aftermarket and future challenges.
“The Focus on Scandinavian IAM,” curated by AUTOMEDIAT.COM, brings the perspective of the independent aftermarket in Finland and the other Nordic countries to the international Academy program at Automechanika Frankfurt.
Automechanika Frankfurt will take place September 8–12, 2026. Automediat.com will report on the events at the trade show and will pay particular attention to developments in the aftermarket and repair shop sectors.

The Classic Alliance (Bosch Classic, DAT, Eucon, ROWE, and FIVA) is behind the initiative.
The program will include, among other things, the restoration of a Simca Figon, as well as presentations on spare parts, market trends, auctions, and 3D printing in the manufacture of classic car parts.

Automechanika Highlights the Polarization of the Aftermarket
The 2026 program illustrates the transformation of the aftermarket: new cars increasingly require expertise in software, data, and high-voltage systems, while artificial intelligence and automation are becoming more widespread in repair shops.
At the same time, the classic car market is growing as a niche sector that combines traditional expertise, digital databases, and new manufacturing technologies.
